“Sometimes, it’s just something weird, something bizarre, something different in order to start a conversation between each other. You are wearing something, someone sees it and asks, “What the hell is that?” Can you tell me about it?
Sophie Beer, Jewellery Artist
Memory Jewellery: Goldsmith Sophie Beer
Sophie Beer is an upcoming jewellery artist. Her jewellery pieces speak of memories, relationships and connections between human beings. Trained as a goldsmith and designer, she chooses to be an artist. Her focus is to use jewellery, made of unconventional materials, as a tool to communicate stories and to open up a dialogue.
“Sometimes, it’s just something weird, something bizarre, something different in order to start a conversation between each other. You are wearing something, someone sees it and asks, “What the hell is that?” Can you tell me about it?
In other things, it might be a reflection about presence and absence of a person, of a story, of an item; a bead, a pearl, or different materials.
The point is how to talk about these things. How to be in the moment and not be in the moment. How to speak about the past and speak about the absence of someone who left a trace.” Sophie Beer
Distance learning needs more Living Books.
As more and more schools move to some measure of distance learning and parents opt for home schooling, Living Books become more important. Children can connect with films like this storytelling video of a unique career. Like a grandfather telling a story or a class presenter, these films need to be less formal than classic profiles to create empathy.
